Free Wedding Coverage in Exchange for Travel

Not every wedding belongs close to home.

Some couples choose places that feel bigger than tradition. Some couples choose something more offbeat and epic. They choose places with scale, texture, weather, and story. Deserts. Coastlines. Mountains. National parks. Cities that never sleep.

At Stewart + Barnes Photo Co., destination weddings are handled with intention, logistics, and respect for the location itself. For select weddings, I offer destination wedding coverage at no cost in exchange for travel. This includes digital photography, film photography and a roll of Super 8 film in exchange for the couple covering my travel and lodging expenses only.

This post outlines the destinations I'm currently offering this for, how it works, and where to go next if you’re planning a wedding somewhere unforgettable.

What Destination Wedding Coverage Includes

Approved destination weddings may include:

  • Wedding Photography Coverage
  • Super 8 Wedding Film
  • 35mm Film Photo
  • Optional Second Shooter (travel covered only)
  • Transparent Travel Planning and Contract

Coverage availability depends on date, location, and fit. Couples interested in destination weddings with Super 8 film can find full details on my Destination Weddings page.

Destination Wedding Locations I'm Currently Accepting

These locations are grouped intentionally. Each offers a distinct environment and type of wedding experience. Some specific venues in certain areas are also listed.

National Park Weddings & Elopements

I selectively offer coverage in national parks based on seasonality, access, and permit requirements. Each park has its own rules, timelines, and limitations — and those matter.

Select parks may include:

  • Glacier National Park
  • Grand Teton
  • Yosemite
  • Grand Canyon
  • Zion
  • Joshua Tree
  • Big Bend

I will help with permit information, but couples are ultimately responsible for securing and paying for required permits. The timeline also needs to align with park regulations.

Pacific Northwest Destination Weddings

The Pacific Northwest offers layered environments. So much depth can be found in the forests, cliffs, coastlines, and mountain weather systems of the PNW. Oftentimes, various locations are within short distances of each other.

Select locations may include:

  • Oregon Coast
  • Washington Coast
  • Olympic National Park
  • Mount Rainier National Park

These weddings reward couples who embrace weather and mood as part of the story.

Las Vegas & Bonneville Salt Flats Weddings

Vegas and the Bonneville Salt Flats offer striking contrasts. Neon lights, open desert, minimalism, and scale. These locations are ideal for elopements and small weddings that prioritize atmosphere over formality.

They work especially well for:

  • micro-weddings and elopements
  • unconventional timelines
  • couples who want bold, cinematic imagery

Some specific Vegas venues might include Sure Thing, Sure Thing Too, Neon Museum or Little White Chapel.

Alaska Destination Weddings & Elopements

Alaska demands planning. Weather, light, and access all play a role, which is why preparation matters here more than almost anywhere else.

These weddings tend to be:

  • intimate and intentional
  • deeply tied to landscape
  • flexible by necessity

Hawaii & Other Island Destination Weddings

Island weddings require respect for the environment and realistic expectations around timelines and logistics. When done well, they offer unmatched atmosphere and movement.

These locations are best suited for:

  • smaller guest counts
  • natural, unforced moments
  • couples comfortable with flexibility

Island weddings also include all-inclusive resort venues. Most of the time, these resorts allow outside photographers as long as they stay on site at the resort as well.

How Destination Wedding Travel Is Handled

Travel weddings leave no room for last-minute scrambling.

If a wedding takes place on a Saturday, I fly out no later than Thursday. This buffer exists for one reason: flight delays and cancellations happen, and I refuse to gamble with a wedding day.

Arriving early allows us to:

  • absorb airline disruptions
  • adjust to time zones and local conditions
  • arrive rested, focused, and prepared

This approach is standard for every destination wedding I accept and is built into travel planning from the start. More information about making travel plans can be found on my Destination Weddings page.

About Second Photographer Coverage

A second photographer can be included at no additional cost for select destination weddings. The only requirement is that their flight is covered! Lodging, rental vehicles, and logistics are shared. This keeps coverage expansive without unnecessary overhead.

Experience With Destination Weddings

Destination weddings aren’t new territory for us.

I’ve previously photographed weddings, elopements and couples in:

  • New Orleans
  • New York City
  • Connecticut
  • Boston
  • Denver
  • San Francisco

That experience informs how I plan, travel, and adapt in unfamiliar environments without slowing down or compromising coverage. You can view my travel portfolio to see all of the locations I've traveled thus far.
